Abstract
One of the most complex and critical components in automated industrial
system is control system because it controls the manufacturing processes.
Programmable Logic Control (PLC) can be used to improve the reliability of control
system.The conventional control system for Vacuum Evaporator for Electroplating
machine( ETPI) in Sumitomo Electric Interconnect Products(M) Sdn.Bhd. will be
redesigned in the Computer Integrated Manufacturing(CIM) Laboratory which will
include the application of PLC and Human Machine Interface(HMI). The PLC
program will be built by using MELSEC GPP for Windows software for the
development of ladder diagram while FX-PCS-DU-WIN-E software is to be used for
the development of HMI. The integration between ladder diagram and HMI will
produce a reliable system to control the manufacturing processes. Hopefully this
project will be able to deliver better understanding of what role PLC plays in control
system as it is widely applied in manufacturing industry.
