Abstract
Now days, growth in wireless technology is changing so rapidly and this bring many new revolutions for human life in this world. There are a lot new systems that are build or constructed to make daily routine and work become easier and simpler. With the development of this application, it has functions to make it easier and more flexible for UTM students to apply for residential colleges. This system allows students to apply to a college, checking the info of colleges and checking the status their application by using SMS technology. SMS technology is chosen because it is cheap and extensively available compared to other wireless technologies. Furthermore, SMS technology has been broadly implemented in handphones and handphones are generally available for students, therefore the system could be implemented easily. Remember, SMS technology is becoming more important in one's life as we move on forward. This system is developed by using Visual Basic 6.0 and PHP as programming language and MySQL as database system. Prototype methodology is chosen to plan, analyse, design and implement the project. In addition, GSM Modem and hand phone with SMS function are the required as hardware component for this project The College Application System AT UTM Using SMS will be the product of this project and it will also be another alternative way to apply for colleges in UTM.
