Abstract
Nowadays, the development of technology has been one of the needs in life. This is due to its capability to retrieve information faster and in efficient way. All the problems regarding retrieving and gathering information can be solved using technologies. Biodiversity Informatics Database of Flora in Langkawi is based on Open Source technology. This system is developed using Rational Unified Process (RUP) and Unified Modeling Language (UML) as a modeling technique. There are several functions that contribute in this system such as profile management module, user registration management module, notification email module, species management module and user registration module, species searching module, database searching module, forum management module, backup and restore database module and sharing the information through social network. This system also developed using PHP language as a programming language and JavaScript as a scripting language. In designing the database, Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 and MySql were used in the system development.
